Ambassadors

I have had the privilege to photograph many dogs over the past two years, but Cooper and Diesel have stood out as some of the best trained dogs I've ever met.  They listen to their owners and follow them like a hawk.  They are a pleasure to photograph in almost any situation. Diesel in particular seems to be able to accomplish tasks or requests that most dogs cannot do.  I'm pleased to call these two dogs my ambassadors for 2025.  Cheers to Cooper and Diesel!! Y ou will see a lot of them in the coming months.

Christmas Minis 2024

For Christmas, 2024, we partnered with Ren's Pet Depot to hold a mini session day in order to raise money for the Border Collie Rescue Ontario (BCRO) Charity.  We had a full day of dogs and families visit us and were able to raise over $500 for the BCRO. We are looking forward to more charity events with them in the future.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at contact@littlebearphotography.ca if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We offer a range of photography services specializing in studio and location shoots. Please see our location guide pdf for the places we have visited for shoots.  We also have a beautiful album showcasing dogs in various locations in and around the Durham region.  We cover everything from puppies to senior, end of life dogs. Fun, energetic dogs, and quieter, soulful ones.

Since our pet photography is a combination of studio shoot and location shoot, you will need to send an inquiry first through our booking site: https://book.usesession.com/t/dhT7vbivn

I will then get back to you and we can discuss available dates and times for both shoots.  Keep in mind that if you want Sky Portraits, they need to be done right after sunrise or in the hour before sunset, and only at specific locations (we need a big open space, with lots of sky).  Studio shoots have more flexibility in terms of availability.

You will receive a contract, questionnaire and model release in an email.  The questionnaire asks such things as details about your pet (name, breed, age), personality, food concerns, background choices for a studio shoot and location choices for outside. We offer both a studio session and a location session as part of our package.

There will also be a reminder email before your session, as well as a follow up email a few days after.

My studio operates out of the basement of my home. My home is located just north of the Harmony & Taunton intersection in North Oshawa. There is plenty of free parking available on the street beside my house, in front of the park.

If your pet is high energy, I recommend a brief walk first. If you are coming to the studio, allow them to have a sniff around the front yard, especially if they need to relieve themselves.

It's a great idea to have your pet have a bath before their session and a good brush. You want them looking their best for their photos.  Hair around the eyes should be trimmed so we can see their beautiful eyes clearly.

If doing a treat catching session, it's a good idea not to feed them before the shoot. They will be gobbling up many yummy treats, so will need to be hungry when they come.

We have lots of different types of backdrops: seasonal, flowery, old master type backgrounds, different types of floors, as well as a whole lot of fun, colourful wide seamless paper, which is excellent for pets as it gives them a lot of room to be themselves. We also have different props for the various holidays and are happy to decorate the set to match the time of year. You may choose 3-4 different colours for your studio shoot, or 1 to 2 decorated sets.  Treat catching is usually done on black velvet, but can be done on the colourful paper backgrounds as well.

We welcome you into our home and take you downstairs where your pet will be the only animal. I do have a little dog, but he will be upstairs in his crate the entire time.  I will give your dog plenty of time to adjust to the space, flashing lights and camera clicks, rewarding them often to acclimatize them. They will soon get used to the experience.

For studio shoots, your dog will be contained, so it is best if they are off leash, and off collar as well.  It makes for a better portrait if they don't have collars on.

On location, it is up to you entirely if your pet can go off leash.  If they have a terrific sit and stay, great. If they have excellent recall, wonderful. But if they don't, that's okay too. We can remove leashes and often collars in post processing. We do prefer that they do not wear a harness, as these are very difficult to remove in post processing.

After the shoot, I will edit a couple of my favourite images and send them to you that day or the next as "sneak peaks".  These images are smaller, social media sized images that are watermark and meant for sharing online with family and friends.  They do not have to be the images that you ultimately choose.

About 1-2 weeks after your shoot you will receive your online gallery from which you can select the images you wish to include in your package.  These will be high resolution digital files and not watermarked. You will also have the option to purchase more digital images as well as other print products.

We have chosen to work with H&H Color Lab, located in the states. They are a professional print lab, with high quality products.  We have several samples of their work that we can show you, ranging from mounted prints, ornaments, mugs, small accordion brag books, acrylic blocks, magnets, memory albums and wall art.  I highly recommend you print your products through us as we stand by their quality.

Yes, of course!  I highly recommend getting pictures done with your pet(s), from formal poses to more casual playful poses.  Pets are only with us for a short time, so it's important to commemorate our love for each other.

When including small children, please be cautious of the fact that toddlers especially can be unpredictable when it comes to being in front of the camera. Most become shy and reluctant to have their picture taken.  A promise of a goody or special treat afterwards often works wonders.

I do have a bubble machine that often gets the little ones engaged and happy and relaxed enough for some portraits.

Certainly, we can try for that!!  Getting more than one animal to cooperate at the same time can be a challenge.  We will take individual photos first and then attempt to do a group shot.  If that fails, we can always try to "Photoshop" a group shot.   If you have more than 2 dogs, we will have to arrange for them to be photographed separately, while the others wait in the car or outside with a family member. There is not enough space for many dogs to be waiting. Plus it's less distracting for them if they are alone.  Smaller pets can be put up on something, which will encourage them to stay put and make it easier for the group shot.

Well, we have not actually photographed a litter before, but we're willing to give it a go.  More than one person will be needed on hand to assist in keeping all the little ones in place for their photo.

Yes we do!  Respecting your beloved pet is very important to us and we would love to capture images of you and your pet (and family) so you can remember them forever.  We will travel for an End of Life session as we realize that pets are not always up for a journey.  Remembering your pet with special albums and wall art is what we specialize in.
